The Environmental Outpost
The Environmental Outpost
The Environmental Outpost is a facility that demonstrates the DASEF mission with emphasis on an appreciation and understanding of our natural world and beyond, and the integration of human ingenuity with the ecosystems of the Earth. It stands at 140 Dinosaur Drive, Smyrna, Delaware 19977, on DASEF's main campus.
DASEF is very proud that the Environmental Outpost has achieved a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification from the United States Green Building Council.
The Outpost anchors much of what happens on the campus. Mountjoy Observatory is attached to the building and opens for our monthly Eyes on the Skies evenings. The guided Planetary Walk begins next to the picnic area behind it, the WonderDish whisper dish sits nearby, and a University of Delaware DEOS weather station stands close by.
Our monthly Destination: Explorations programs for parents and children are held here, and Endangered Species programs can be hosted at the Outpost as well. The Environmental Outpost is open by appointment, and can be reserved for smaller, informal meetings and gatherings.
