Exploration: Art and Science – April 5

Want to become an artist for a day or ever wonder how scientific principals can release your creativity? You and your child will learn about absorption and diffusion of color on paper and use geometry in photographic composition. How artistic!

Exploration: Rockets
– April 12

Please note: The fee for the Exploration: Rockets is $15 per child and $5 for accompanying adult (includes a rocket kit and all assembly and launch materials).

You know the expression. “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist.” Well, it does take a rocket scientist to build and launch a model, which works on the same principles as the ones used by NASA’s space exploration teams! Are you up to the challenge? Find out by attending one of these rocket science sessions. You and your child will build the “Alpha” model rocket, then push the “launch” button to send it soaring into the skies over Smyrna! And the skills you acquire will enable you to build other models in your “laboratory” back home. Awesome!

Exploration: World of Birds – May 17

Like to know more about the birds in your yard or ever wonder how they survive in a demanding environment? You and your child will go bird watching with a naturalist, identify common birds, and try the “Camouflage Challenge”. Make a bird feeder for free or a bird house for your yard (extra fee for materials). Chirrup! Chirrup!

Exploration: Sound All Around – June 7

Want to be a sound engineer or ever wonder how sounds are made? You and your child will discover the vibration/sound connection, see a performance of futuristic electronic music, and try to identify mystery sounds. Compose your own song using Boomwhacker sound tubes. Melodic fun!

Friday Evening Eyes on the Skies

Like to get a better look at objects you see in the night sky or want to share the excitement of star gazing with your family and friends, but don’t own a telescope? Then come to ITEC’s Environmental Outpost for one of our evening “Eyes on the Skies” sessions (see schedule below). For two hours, you can explore the universe in our observatory and learn about the moon, the planets, and constellations. The fee is $5/person. Limit: 20 participants. Pay by exact change or check. Make check payable to: “DASEF”. To sign up email your name, number of participants, and your phone number to: Rick Waterhouse: wate6585@zoominternet.net
